US ‘number one threat’ is a civil war expert warns as FBI calls for domestic terrorism law

US: Frank Figliuzzi on ‘threat’ of domestic terrorism

Frank Figliuzzi told the BBC’s World at One that the FBI has been calling for a domestic terrorism law to be passed in order to combat the impending threat to America. Mr Figliuzzi added that there is currently no law against domestic terrorism in the United States.

BBC host Sarah Montague asked: “The FBI will be wargaming through the idea of a civil war, will they?”

Mr Figliuzzi replied: “The FBI is already well versed in domestic terrorism and in fact the FBI director Chris Ray has testified multiple times before Congress that this is the number one threat facing America.

“He even went far enough to say that there is a sub-group within the domestic terrorism threat that is hated based, ethnic-based hate that is fuelling the violence in America.

“So we have to have a national discussion about things like whether we want to pass a domestic terrorism law that looks a lot like the international terrorism law.

“That gives investigative resources to the FBI to do the kind of things that prevent that acts of terrorism as we have done on the international side.

“Many Americans do not know that there is no law against domestic terrorism.

“But there is for international acts of terrorism on US soil.”
