Winds in Denver area lead to road closures, travel restrictions

Colorado 93 has reopened in both directions after it was closed from West 64th Avenue in Golden to the Boulder County line, Colorado 128, because of strong winds, powerful enough to topple semitrucks in the area.

At least one semitruck also was blown over Friday on Indiana Street near West 96th Avenue, according to the Colorado State Patrol. There are reports of other semitrucks blown over along Colorado 93 on the west side of Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge.

While the roadway is back open to travel, there is a high wind restriction for all high profile or light trailers from U.S. 6, also signed as Colorado 58, in Golden to Colorado 170, 1 mile south of Eldorado Springs.

Winds along Colorado 93 were measured at 55 mph Friday afternoon, with gusts up to 72 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Windy weather that drove dust and affect visibility on the plains and wintry weather in the mountains also closed roads around the state on Friday.
