Woman killed in suspected homicide in Geelong
Homicide squad detectives are investigating the death of a woman in Geelong following a suspected assault metres from a nearby primary school.
Emergency services were called to a home on The Walk in Thomson, in the city’s east, shortly before 9.30pm Sunday.
A police spokeswoman said the woman, who is yet to be formally identified, was in a critical condition when paramedics arrived.
Despite attempts to revive her with CPR, she died at the scene.
“A man was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with their inquiries,” the spokeswoman said.
“It’s believed the man and woman are known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the death at this stage.”
The flats, which face Tate Street Primary School, back onto a small shopping strip and Geelong’s nearby Eastern cemetery.
Police said homicide squad detectives would attend the scene on Monday. The exact circumstances are still under investigation.
