Woman spotted love rival in tanning salon and called her mum to come batter her

A fight at a tanning salon saw a woman call her mum in to batter a love rival.

Melanie Park was attacked outside Tropical Heat on Corinthian Street in Birkenhead by Suzanne David, 51, and her daughters Tiffany and Shannon Baker, 26 and 20.

Footage was gathered of the incident, which occurred at around 3.15pm on March 3, 2022, and showed David and Tiffany Baker pulling Ms Park to the ground.

David then sat on the victim and banged her head twice onto the floor as she shouted "You f****** little sweat. Dirty f****** sweat. Don't you dare talk to my f****** kids."

David, of Church Road in Tranmere, Tiffany Baker, of Rock Close in Rock Ferry, and Shannon Baker, also of Church Road, all pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Earlier today (August 4), Liverpool Crown Court heard how Ms Park was the current girlfriend of Tiffany Baker's ex-partner.

Prosecutor Matthew Kerruish-Jones explained to the court that the victim was known to the three assailants with both women having been in the tanning booths at Tropical Heat when the fracas broke out.

When the victim exited the establishment, the three attackers were waiting outside for her.

Mr Kerruish Jones said: "The video footage starts with the complainant and Suzanne David stood up, pulling each other's hair.

“Suzanne David and Tiffany Baker then pull the complainant to the floor. Tiffany punches the complainant to the face at least four times, pulls her hair and drags her into the road.

“While this is happening, Suzanne David is straddling the complainant.

"Shannon Baker then kicks the complainant twice to the head. Tiffany Baker grabs her arm and punches her to the head."

Ms Park was taken to A and E following the incident, which the trio departed from in a blue BMW.

Ms Park said she had to take time off work following the incident which led to her losing her employment at a nursing home.

She claimed her 14-month-old son was too scared to look at her due to her facial injuries and the loss of her job saw her fall into financial difficulties.

The LiverpoolEcho reports that the incident had left her with a fear of going outside.

She said: "Prior to this attack I was a happy-go-lucky person. I would be out all of the time. My day-to-day life has changed dramatically. I'm not sure I will ever be the same again."

In defence of David, Andrew McInnes noted his client’s “appalling record”.

He said: "It's a record which tells a story of addiction to class A drugs that started at 18. In recent years David has managed to get a grip on that addition. She hadn't used heroin for seven years, but as a result of this case she sadly tested positive this week."

The court heard David occasionally used cocaine as a “treat”.

He added: "In 2017 she served a short prison sentence for shoplifting and since that point took the decision that she needed to rid herself of that addiction.

“In later years she has been closure to her children being a more much positive figure in their lives. Perhaps that change in her life explains her overprotective behaviour."

Judge Ian Harris said: "It's not overprotective behaviour. It's an attack."

David was sentenced to one year and three months in prison, Tiffany Baker to 10 months in prison, and her sister, Shannon Baker, to 10 months in a young offenders' institution.
