Lady Gaga has been picked to sing the national anthem at President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, according to a report Thursday.
The New York-born superstar — who campaigned for Biden during the election — has been confirmed to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the swearing-in ceremony next Wednesday, the inaugural committee told Variety.
Fellow New Yorker Jennifer Lopez is another star name involved, although details of her performance were not revealed.
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, has long backed Biden, and even hit the campaign trail for him in Pittsburgh in November, saying, “Vote for Joe. He’s a good person.”
After his election win was announced, she posted a photo of them hugging, while gushing that he and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris “just gave the world one of the greatest acts of kindness and bravery humanity has ever seen.”
“Nothing but love for our new Commander in Chief and the 1ST female VP elected to the White House,” she wrote.
Gaga also has history singing the national anthem in front of millions, having been widely praised for her rendition at the 2016 Super Bowl.
Along with Gaga and Lopez, Variety suggests other stars may also be announced later as Hollywood embraces the new Democratic leader.
Also at the inauguration, Andrea Hall, a career firefighter, will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance, while the first National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, will recite a poem, the committee told Variety.
Father Leo O’Donovan will deliver an invocation, while by Reverend Dr. Silvester Beaman will give a benediction, the report said. Both are longtime friends of Biden.
