The United Nations is once again turning to former Mayor Mike Bloomberg to lead the way on global climate solutions.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reappointed the billionaire three-term mayor as the special envoy on climate ambition and solutions Friday.

Bloomberg previously served as the UN special envoy for climate action between March 2018 and November 2019.

The liberal Republican turned Democrat for a failed 2016 bid at the presidential nomination, stepped down from the post for his run.

Guterres said the 78-year-old philanthropist’s role will be “to mobilize stronger and more ambitious climate action” ahead of November’s Glasgow, Scotland global summit.

The media mogul will help phase-out coal across the world and “will engage government officials and members of the private sector and civil society to finalize and implement plans, particularly in high-emitting countries, industries and sectors, to vastly accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy,” the United Nations said.

Bloomberg will be charged with “growing and strengthening” a union of governments and businesses committed to net-zero emissions by 2050. Those goals are in line the with the 2015 Paris agreement signed by nearly 200 countries.

Former President Trump pulled the US out of the accord last November, a move that was immediately reversed by President Biden in his first day of office.

The former mayor’s far-reaching 2007 PlaNYC initiative to slash pollution in the boroughs by 2030 was a key focus of his administration.
