Speaking to LBC’s Nick Ferrari on Monday, one caller claimed Labour will win elections as long as the party “sticks to socialism”. Mr Ferrari was surprised by the claims and noted how Labour have not won an election since Tony Blair and he was not a socialist. The caller’s comments come a the Labour Party were hit by a disastrous set of local elections results last week as pressure builds on leader Sir Keir Starmer to make changes and take a strong leadership position.
Nick Ferrari told the caller how Keir Starmer has “still got the divisions in the party” adding those divisions are “what is dragging him down” and questioned whether Labour can move forward to challenge the Conservatives in future elections.
The caller replied: “The party shouldn’t be divided, the Labour Party should stick to what they were always about which is socialism.
“I think there was an opportunity for socialism to be accepted at the last general election!”
But Mr Ferrari jumped in: “My dear fellow! And I’m obviously borrowing this from Peter Mandelson, who I thought made a very powerful comment last week, which if you allow Tony Blair took them (Labour) away from their roots…”

But the caller jumped in: “Well he took them off-brand didn’t he!”
Mr Ferrari hit back: “Hold on! This is is totally Peter Mandelson, this is the Labour Party track record on elections: ‘lose, lose, lose, lose, Blair, Blair, Blair, lose, lose, lose, lose’.”
The LBC host slammed: “Now what does that tell you about the Labour Party?”
The caller came back saying: “Well, it tells you they can win when the country wants socialism, and they have a leader the country will vote for, they will win!”

Mr Ferrari questioned: “Was Tony Blair a socialist?”
“No, New Labour wrong-footed the Tories and he was the Lionel Messi that put the ball in the back of the net for them! I think the country would’ve voted for a socialist government at the last general election had it not been Jeremy Corbyn!”
The caller’s comments come as Sir Keir Starmer underwent a brutal reshuffle which has seen deputy Angela Rayner ditched as party chair to be made shadow first secretary of state, shadow chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and shadow secretary of state for the Future of Work.
Former shadow chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Rachel Reeves was also appointed to shadow Chancellor, while Mr Brown was replaced as shadow Chief Whip by Alan Campbell, and Thangam Debbonaire was moved to shadow Commons leader.

Khan’s comments come as the Conservatives won the Hartlepool by-election by 52 percent of the vote to 29 percent – the constituency voted to leave the EU in 2016.
