Horror as teen’s body pulled from packed quay on hottest day of year

A 19-year-old has died after getting into the water at Salford Quays in Greater Manchester, police have said.
Police were called at around 4:40pm on Sunday, and sadly, a body was recovered from the water three hours later.

Paramedic vehicles from the North West Ambulance Service arrived just before 8:15pm.
It comes after reports of a large number of swimmers in the Quays on Sunday, on what was the hottest day of the year so far.
The 19-year-old hasn't been named and an investigation is underway into the death, with a file being passed to the coroner.
Detective Inspector Helen Bagnall, of GMP's Trafford district, told Manchester Evening News: "Firstly our thoughts are with this young man's family and friends, and the people who witnessed the tragic events.
"Sadly, this proves how dangerous going into unfamiliar water can be, especially when you can't see below the surface of what could be very cold water."
Shortly before 6pm, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said they were looking for a 19-year-old in the water for some half an hour, but had been unsuccessful.

Police placed a large cordon around the pathway to the quays, blocking pedestrians from getting close to the water.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "At 4.35pm we received the first of several 999 calls in relation to a person needing to be rescued from water in Salford Quays.
"We have been searching the water for more than 30 minutes using fire service boats, divers, and underwater cameras – but we have not yet found the person."

They went on: "We continue to search the water supported by colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service."
"Sadly, despite a rescue operation at Salford Quays this evening, a 19-year-old man has lost his life," a tweet on Greater Manchester Police's Twitter account read.
"Our thoughts are with this young man's family and friends, and the people who witnessed the tragic events.

The Canal and Rivers Trust "strongly advises" against going into the water, as "there are too many risks that you can't see hidden below the surface".
