Summer 2021 has been disappointing for many – marked with long periods of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and hail for many. Flash flooding was reported across many areas and shocking images of flooding in the capital emerged earlier this year. But the unsettled and cold weather could soon be a thing of the past, with weather experts predicting hot conditions to hit the country in a matter of days.

Yesterday (August 22) saw most areas of Britain smashed with heavy showers and for some regions these downpours will continue on Sunday,

Over the next few days however, weather conditions are predicted to move from wet and changeable to mainly dry.

The forecast for the weekend advises of some heavy rain with risk of thunder in south-eastern parts of England at first, whilst rather cloudy elsewhere with a little rain in places.

Many parts will become dry through the day with sunny intervals developing, but also the odd shower.

Overnight conditions will be mainly dry with variable amounts of cloud and clear intervals.

Things will turn misty with some fog or low clouds in places.

Forecasters have been promising a late summer/early autumn heatwave for several days.

However, the latest Met Office forecast crushed the hopes of many eager Britons wishing for sunny conditions during late August.

Instead, the latest maps and charts from forecasters reveal there are higher odds of hot weather in early September.

The longer-term forecast for beyond the weekend and into September indicates conditions will be considerably warmer however.

The Met Office forecast for August 26 to September 4 reads: “The last week in August and into September is likely to be dominated by high pressure bringing fine and settled weather to the UK.

“This will bring variable amounts of cloud, spells of sunshine and mainly light winds but also some fog patches by night, which readily clear away during early morning.

“It looks increasingly likely that these settled conditions will persist through much of this period, with perhaps weak frontal systems bringing some light rain at times.

“Winds are likely to be light to moderate for most, with breezier conditions towards the edge of the high pressure in the far south, where it may feel cooler.

“Temperatures are likely to be rather warm in the west initially, but later feeling rather warm more widely, especially with increasing amounts of sunshine.”

Beyond that, from early to mid-September forecasters believe there is an indication high pressure and associated settled conditions will continue.

This high pressure will become less dominant over this period meaning a higher chance of more unsettled conditions.

With these changes there will be a move towards periods of showers and longer spells of rain, interspersed with drier spells at times.

Temperature forecasts however suggest things will be above average for the time of year.

Temperature maps from forecaster WX Charts indicate conditions could peak at 25C in some areas of London and the South East on Thursday, September 2.

The map reveals a pattern of warmer conditions across eastern areas of the country generally, with highs of 25C seen around 6pm on Thursday.

The hot weather will continue into Friday according to the weather forecaster with maps indicating highs of 27C possible in some places.

Temperatures will drop slightly on Saturday, September 4, according to the temperature maps, with highs of 25C predicted.
