Jailed paramedic, 55, struck off after repeatedly posting revenge porn

Paramedic, 55, who kept posting revenge porn of his ex-girlfriend online is struck off after being jailed for two years

A ‘deplorable’ paramedic who was jailed for two and a half years after twice posting revenge porn of his former partner on social media has now been struck off from the profession. 

Gary Ellis, 55, was arrested at his home in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, in April 2020 after he posted private sexual photos and films of the woman online and his laptop was seized by police. 

Ellis, who worked as a paramedic for 18 years, feigned sickness to his bosses at East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and only told them about his arrest a week later.

He was handed a suspended prison sentence in December that year after admitting the charge, but went on to torment his victim once again by posting revenge porn for a second time in February 2021. 

Ellis was jailed for 30 months at Nottingham Crown Court on March 8 last year for both offences, as well as breaching the terms of his suspended sentence.

Now, a fitness to practice panel has banned him from working as a paramedic.

The tribunal for the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS) stated: ‘[Ellis] engaged in a repeated course of criminal conduct which resulted in his receiving a sentence of imprisonment for a period of 30 months on March 8, 2021. 

‘He has provided no evidence to the Panel of insight or remorse as to the negative impact of his behaviour on his victim or the reputation of the profession.

‘The Panel considered [Ellis’s] conduct… could properly be described as “deplorable” by the standards of ordinary, decent members of the public.

‘His behaviour was targeted against that individual and was intended to cause her distress.

‘The panel concluded that the appropriate sanction is a Striking Off Order.’

Ellis (pictured) received a suspended sentence in December 2020 for one count of posting private sexual images of his former girlfriend. He went on to repeat the offence in February 2021, which saw him jailed the following month

The tribunal heard Ellis began working for the East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust in 2002 and was seconded to the role of Clinical Operations Manager from December 2018.

But his previously ‘unblemished career’ came crashing down in April 2020, when he was arrested by Nottinghamshire Police in relation to allegations of harassment and posting private sexual photographs and videos on social media.

In addition to his jail sentence, Ellis was also made subject to an ‘indefinite’ restraining order preventing any contact with the victim.

It is understood he has since been released from prison. 

Tina Richardson, deputy director of human resources and organisational development at EMAS said: ‘In line with our East Midlands Ambulance Service and NHS values, we dealt with the situation in line with our policies as soon as we were made aware of these allegations, and can confirm they no longer work for the organisation.

‘We take all complaints and allegations extremely seriously and in addition to following our own internal policies and procedures, we fully cooperated with the HCPC and other regulatory bodies with their investigations, and fully respect the outcome from the HCPC ruling.’
