Vladimir Putin has “completely lost faith” in Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin and “wants him removed”, insiders have claimed in an indiction of deep divisions within the Russian command structure. The explosive claims have levelled by the Where is Russia Today website, which monitors propaganda coming out of the country, and which tweeted a screenshot of directives sent to Russian state media.
It states: “Interesting comms coming out from the Kremlin to Russia-aligned media outlets: ‘#WagnerPMC and #Prigozhin may NOT be mentioned when discussing combat operations in’, ‘Do not cite ANY of Prigozhin’s statements related to the war in Ukraine.
Where Is Russia Today adds: “It is now obvious: Prigozhin’s failures in #Bakhmut and elsewhere in Ukraine means that Putin has completely lost faith in him – and wants him removed.”
The claims come after Prigozhin, sometimes seen as a potential rival to Putin, suggested there was “frustration” among members of the mercenary army, whom he claims are on the verge of capturing the key eastern city of Bakhmut – without the help of regular Russian troops.
