Majorie Taylor Greene hits back at Mitch McConnell as QAnon rep says 'real cancer inside GOP is weak republicans'

MAJORIE Taylor Greene has hit back at Mitch McConnell, saying that the "real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans".

The comments come after McConnell criticised the freshman congresswoman, describing her views as a "cancer for the Republican party".

Greene was elected to the House of Representatives in November as a supporter of then-president Donald Trump.

She has repeatedly voiced support for the QAnon movement, which holds that a group of global elites is running a child sex-trafficking ring and that Trump spent his time in office fighting it, as well as other conspiracy theories.

QAnon has in recent years gained widespread support among Trump's Republican base.

Taking to twitter to respond to McConnell's criticism, Greene wrote: "The real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully.

"This is why we are losing our country."

In a statement on Monday which didn't name Greene but referenced a number of her previous claims, Republican Senate leader McConnell said: "Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country.

"Somebody who's suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.'s airplane is not living in reality.

"This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party."

A recently unearthed video from 2018 showed Greene repeating debunked conspiracy theories about the September 11 attacks.

She refers to the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 as “the so-called plane that crashed into the Pentagon”.

“It's odd there's never any evidence shown for a plane in the Pentagon,” she said.

Footage released by the US Justice Department in 2006 showed the plane hitting the building and the subsequent explosion.

Greene has also claimed in posts on Facebook that a number of high school shootings and other attacks, including the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, were false flag operations intended to justify more gun control.

She has further backed the so-called "Clinton Body Count" conspiracy theories, which claims that Bill and Hillary Clinton have arranged the assassination of multiple former associates.

Before being elected to Congress, she also reportedly endorsed violence against Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other high-ranking Democrats.

On Monday, Democrats in the House moved to have Greene removed from her position on a number of House Committees.

Greene currently sits on the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Budget Committee.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has told Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy that, if he doesn't strip Greene of her positions, the Democrats will move the issue to the floor.
