Woman with ‘poisoned land and dead fish’ bears knickers to world in racy protest
A woman has got her knickers out to the world in a defiant protest against being poisoned.
The woman, named Sompong, from the Samut Prakarn province of Thailand close to the capital Bangkok, performed the unusual gesture as she raged against builders putting toxic chemicals on her land.
They are understood to have flooded her turf with toxic wastewater, damaging her livelihood and killing her fish – so she opted to vent her frustration by dangling more than 30 pairs of pants from a wire.

As well as knickers, high-heeled shoes and sandals all dangle from the wire.
Thai TikTok account @songthaow posted a video of the protest which uses an electric wire as the platform for the daring demonstration.
The poster, initially thinking the pants were being flaunted for superstitious purposes, said: “Can anyone tell me what these panties are for?
"The panties are hung about four to five metres from the floor. Do any superstitions work?”
Thai news outlets were quick to pick up on the video that went viral in no time.
After looking into the matter it was reported the pants were hung close to a new luxury housing village in the Bang Pli district of Samut Prakarn province by 63-year-old Sompong.

Speaking to news outlet Channel 7 yesterday (March 2), Sompong gave an insight into what the meaning behind the knickers really was.
“I hang the panties and shoes like that because I really hate the nearby residential project,” she said.
“It gives me tonnes of problems since the construction started until now. The noise from the construction keeps me up at night.
“The village also released wastewater onto my land. I cannot grow any plants and my fish all died. I cannot make a living!”
She claimed despite speaking with a representative from the development nothing had been done to accommodate her complaints.
The foreman of the project was later contacted by community leader Thanadon Kaewprasert but any and all kinds of details were withheld leaving residents completely in the dark about what the next steps could be.
