LBC caller Adam from Popular in East London has defended Boris Johnson with the argument that Britain is better governed by “an unaccomplished liar” than a Prime Minister over “who’s a really smooth and convincing liar.” Adam backed Mr Johnson weather the ongoing ‘partygate’ scandal because voters warm to the fact he is not a “smooth machine.”

Caller Adam told LBC: “The main point I take away from all this is I prefer to have an unaccomplished lair as Prime Minister so you can always tell when he’s lying now we have got the measure of him.

“Then somebody who is a very smooth, convincing lair.”

He continued: “We all know where we ended up with the last one of them…”

LBC host Shelagh Forgarty asked: “Who is that in your view?”

“Well Mr Blair, dragged us into a war with no justification,” replied Adam.

He added: “Politically this is helping Johnson because actually He is showing people his fallibilities.

“People looking down at him and thinking, well, I’m better than him, which is fine they probably are, but the point is that it makes him more attractive to me as a politician.

“He is not a smooth machine type person.”

Boris Johnson is in 'quite a lot of trouble' says MP

It comes after polling guru Sir John Curtice suggested that the Conservative Party frontrunners to replace Boris Johnson as Prime Minister may offer an “easier target of attack” for Labour.

Professor Curtice told RT: “Previous Prime Ministers have been in trouble, essentially because of arguments about policy, all of this has essentially happened because of arguments about Boris Johnson’s behaviour.

“So it’s very, very much about his personality, and the question the Conservative Party have to ask themselves is, however effective a vote-winner he was in the past, is he now damaged goods and therefore needs to be returned to sender?

“That’s the question they have to ask themselves if they do come to that conclusion, and the truth is, I think they will find themselves having to get rid of him.

“And then we will get into a new political ball game.”

He continued: “We will have somebody either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss, who certainly I think will not be as willing to be as interventionist as far as Boris Johnson was.

“He isn’t a traditional Tory, at least in certain respects he’s something of a big spender.

“I think may actually present the Labour Party with a rather easier target to attack.
