France has accused the UK of being slow to provide fisheries with licences for British waters.

It has demanded the Government speed up the process of authorising fishing within the 12 mile limit.

Threatening Britain, France said it would take retaliatory measures if its demands were not met.

Responding this afternoon, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “The trade and cooperation agreement sets out very clearly what the rules are on this and we expect them to always be followed in the appropriate manner.

“We’re abiding by the regulations, and will continue to do so.”
