Boris Johnson told BBC News that the opening election results were “very encouraging” for his Conservative Party. The Prime Minister also confirmed that he would be visiting Hartlepool later today after the Tories break Labour’s 47-year dominance in the constituency
Mr Johnson said: “I just wanted to say that I know the results have been coming in since this morning and clearly there is a lot more to go.
“It is early days but a very encouraging set of results so far.
“I think that is because we have been focussing as Government on our priorities, people’s priorities, bouncing back from the pandemic as far as we can.”
He added: “I will be saying a bit more later on in Hartlepool.”
