Tooting MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan erupted at Boris Johnson after it emerged that Downing Street held regular “wine time Friday’s” and repeatedly held COVID-19 rule-breaking parties behind the doors of No 10 at the height of lockdown, something which the Prime Minister is reported to have encouraged so staff could “let off steam”.

Speaking to Sky News, the Labour Party MP questioned how the Prime Minister can look at those who faced the horrors of the pandemic in the eye following ‘Winegate’.

She said: “What are we supposed to tell people who were robbed of the opportunities to say goodbye to their loved ones?

“I think it is absolutely disgusting that while the country was following the rules, Downing Street was laughing!

“They were packing off their suitcases to the local supermarket, stocking it with wine and working out which civil servant was going to be the DJ!”

And in a skewering attack, she slammed the Prime Minister “ordinarily couldn’t organise a p*ss up in a brewery, but he can clearly organise one in Downing Street” as she drove the knife further into the flailing Prime Minister.

Dr Allin-Khan, who spent much of the Coronavirus lockdown working on the frontline in the NHS tackling the virus, said the parties “laugh in the face” of NHS staff.

She added how the news is also a withering blow to other frontline workers who worked round the clock to save lives and keep the economy running over lockdown and throughout the pandemic.

Asked whether it was fair that those in Government could “let off steam”, as the Mirror reported Boris Johnson as saying, Dr Allin-Khan disagreed.

She said: “People were trying to do the right thing, protect their neighbours, colleagues…

“It is a joke to suggest people in 10 Downing Street deserve special favour… unfortunately the erosion in public trust is so deep that the public will not forgive the Government for this.”

It comes as the Daily Telegraph reported on Friday that No10 held two parties for departing staff members on the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral.

The Queen was pictured sitting alone at the April 17 event last year, following Government guidance around funerals.

Downing Street has since apologised to The Queen for the parties.

The Mirror newspaper has claimed the Friday wine events were such a hit with staff in No10 invested in a £142 drinks fridge to keep bottles of white wine, prosecco, and beer chilled.

The latest revelations add to the six COVID-19 rule busting parties currently being investigated by senior civil servant Sue Gray.

Mr Johnson is now reported to have launched “Operation save Big Dog” as he desperately scrambles to save his skin following the raft of crises that have engulfed Downing Street and his leadership.
