Nigel Farage warns of ‘Remainer revenge’ over Boris Johnson

Nigel Farage gives verdict on Boris Johnson row

Nigel Farage tonight warned of “Remainer revenge” after the release of a blistering partygate report into Boris Johnson.

The GB News presenter said some people were “absolutely delighted” the Brexiteer had been “toppled”.

Mr Farage said he was “sad” for Brexit and warned there are already moves to reverse the UK’s departure from the EU.

He said he backs the findings of the Privileges Committee that the former prime minister deliberately misled Parliament with denials over lockdown parties in No 10.

But Mr Farage criticised the “wholly unnecessary and nasty” to deprive Mr Johnson of a parliamentary pass.

Speaking on his GB News show, the presenter said: “It finally arrived at 9am this morning, the 30,000 words came out from the Privileges Committee, it was as much as a small book.

“It was absolutely unequivocal in saying they believe, that committee, by the way a majority of whom were Conservative MPs, that he did knowingly mislead Parliament. In fact the word mislead appeared 93 times amongst those 30,000 words.

“It’s conclusion to say that he would have been recommended for a ban of 90 days had he stayed as an MP, something which MPs will still vote on next Monday.

“And then to remove his House of Commons past I thought looked petty at best, vindictive and nasty at worst. That was I think wholly unnecessary and nasty.

“And there was an element I thought today of Remainer revenge.

“People being absolutely delighted that the man at the top associated with us leaving the EU a couple of years ago, that he’d finally been toppled.

“But I think amidst all the sound and fury, people saying it’s been a kangaroo court and others saying that Boris really didn’t behave as a PM should, I think most of the debate today has missed the key point because it is did he knowingly mislead Parliament.

“I’m sad it’s come to this, I’m sad for him, I’m sad also for Brexit that this has happened because I can see already articles in the Guardian suggesting now that Boris has gone we can reverse Brexit.

“But did he mislead Parliament? I’m afraid I do believe that he did.”

The report found Mr Johnson committed “repeated contempts” of Parliament by deliberately misleading MPs with his partygate denials before being complicit in a campaign of abuse and intimidation of the committee.

It recommended a 90-day suspension from the Commons if he had not sensationally resigned and that he should be deprived of a pass granting him access to Parliament.

But the ex-prime minister accused the panel – which he has previously branded a “kangaroo court” – of reaching a “deranged conclusion”.
