Owen Jones and Ed Balls in GMB row as viewers say one has ‘lost the plot’

Owen Jones calls GMB’s Ed Balls ‘childish’

Ed Balls and Owen Jones clashed in a furious row about the weekend’s protests on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

The pair were debating the marches in London on Armistice Day which erupted into violence.

Former Labour minister Ed Balls, lefty pundit Owen Jones and journalist Andrew Pierce, consultant editor Daily Mail, rowed about the demonstrations live on TV.

Jones said: “The difference between the far right protest is that was organised based on hate and a large proportion of them were arrested on that basis.”

Pierce said: “And antisemitism isn’t based on hate?”

Jones retorted: “Antisemitism is based on hate and it’s not why the vast majority of protesters were there and the difference is Palestinian protestors were directly racially abused.

“You can see it on camera the clips of people who went on the demonstration – coked up, drunk, far right extremists.”

GMB presenter Susanna Reid interjected: “And Jewish people weren’t subjected to hate speech?”

Jones replied: “No. There were Jewish people. Thousands on that protest and they were not racially abused.”

Pierce reminded viewers that a synagogue was attacked during the protests.

Balls then chimed in saying: “The thing that’s totally weird about Owen Jones’ performance is he’s absolutely taking all the heat off Suella Braverman.

“The truth is she did say unacceptable things which Rishi Sunak is not wanting to repeat nor was Grant Shapps yesterday.”

Jones argued that the “vast majority” of the media is supporting what Israel is doing and “refusing to call out war crimes”.

Balls said: “He’s so intellectually second rate.”

Jones retored: “You are so childish. Grow up. Grow up. You’re acting in an unprofessional way. You should grow up.”

The row comes just days after Tory MP Dr Liam Fox accused Owen Jones of a “hysterical lefty rant”.

The left-wing activist let loose after the former minister raised concerns that some people might feel intimidated by the behaviour of any protesters who are not peaceful at the march in London on November 11.

The ex-minister said: “This is a hysterical lefty rant.

“What we’re talking about are real people on my street who are terrified by people saying ‘end Israel’ and these are people who remember what the Holocaust was.”
