President Biden to hold first press conference next week on 64th day in office

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden will hold his first press conference next week, marking the longest any president in recent history has waited to make himself broadly available to the media.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday the president will hold a press conference on March 25, which is 64 full days into his presidency.

Biden has faced scrutiny for his delay in holding a press conference, as his two more frequent predecessors held a briefing within their first month of their presidency. Former President Barack Obama held a press conference 20 days into office, and former President Donald Trump held a briefing on his 27th day.

Previously, Psaki previously has hinted that the White House would soon schedule a press briefing for the president. In an interview with CNN earlier this month, Psaki noted that Biden “takes questions from the reporters covering the White House regularly” during and in between events at the White House. 

She also argued that the president is currently focused “day in and day out is on getting the pandemic under control and putting people back to work.”

Biden’s press conference will come two weeks after Congress passed the American Rescue Plan, which Biden then signed it into law.
