2 men dead at ‘extreme cockfighting event’ where roosters are armed with knives
Two men have bled to death at a so-called "extreme cockfighting event" that saw combating roosters armed with deadly weapons.
Fuming fowl were strapped with knives at a recent cockfighting event in India, but it was the deaths of two men during the horror incident during Sankranti celebrations that caught the attention.
Victim Gande Suryapraksha Rao was attempting to tie knives to the feet of one fighting rooster when the animal became spooked, flew into the air and inflicted severe damage on the 42-year-old.

Another person, Padma Raju, 20, was grievously injured during the horror incident in Andhra Pradesh, and succumbed to the wounds inflicted by the knife-wielding rooster on his way to hospital.
Raju sustained deep cuts to his left leg and body and died in transit on the way to a hospital in Nallajerla.
Despite banning the controversial cockfighting and several measures taken up by police, the competitions are often organised in the south-east regions of India.
One festival goer speaking to The New Indian Express said: "Cockfights are the biggest attractions in Godavari and parts of Krishna and Guntur districts during the three-day Sankranti festival."
Both deaths are said to have been due to brutal injuries suffered by the knife-clad birds that were spooked before battle.

Cockfighting, which was banned by a Supreme Court in 2018, has seen a slate of criticism from animal lovers and activists who have consistently demanded stricter action be taken against the event.
Bids on the controversial cockfights can range anywhere from £100 (10,000 rupees) to £5000 (500,000 rupees), but the event has been heavily criticised despite its extreme popularity in the region.
