‘500-mile French flare’ to end thunderstorms with ’27C heatwave’ this week

After a miserable washout weekend, a three-day 27C heatwave could sweep in as a 500-mile wide 'French flare' heads towards the UK.

The British weather has brought days of thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and flash floods, with cars stranded in the street and Brits stuck in their homes.

Lightning storms and torrential rain has caused havoc on the roads and rivers bursting their banks.

But, luck may be in our favour as a 'French flare', standing at 500-mile wide, could bring a three-day heatwave this week, writes The Sun.

However, before that, there will be more rainfall and soggy weather to come.

Brits have been angered over the school holiday weather, with three times the amount of rain usually seen for this time of year.

It's said to be the worst summer break the UK has seen for the past seven years, without even taking in the effect of the Covid pandemic.

Although warmer skies are hopefully on the way as a plume of heat from the Mediterranean continues on its way towards our coastlines.

It's said temperatures could scorch at 27C in the south with 25C further north.

It'll be short-lived, as, after the three glorious days, we'll see ten days of downpours again in true British style.

However, 28C sunshine will then return ahead of the bank holiday – which could last for two whole weeks.

Dry and sunny spells are expected on Wednesday, Met Office forecaster Becky Mitchell said.

Except for Northern Ireland, which is still predicted to experience wet and cloudy weather.

The forecaster added the summery mercury is being dragged over by southerly winds, with the "warm air coming from the continent".

It means there is light at the end of the tunnel for the rainstorms and thunderstorms that have brought flooding to millions over the past weeks.

Before the heat is turned up, a new weather warning is in place for Monday, with alerts for lightning strikes and heavy rainfall.

Parts of Scotland are bracing for torrential rain and thundery downpours.

Up to 80mm of rain could fall in these parts over several hours, along with hail or strong winds.

However, southern areas of the UK and London are not expected to see the miserable weather.
