BBC Weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood insisted the spike in temperatures across the UK would not last. She noted that much of the UK will see temperatures in the high teens or low 20s this week. There will also be a risk of flooding in Scotland due to some heavy and persistent rain.

Towards the weekend temperatures will fall and an Arctic blast will move in for a wintry Easter weekend.

Ms Kirkwood said: “Warming up is really the forecast for the start of the week.

“It is not going to remain that way by the end of the week and it will be much colder.

“Into the Easter weekend, it is going to be cold, particularly so on Easter Sunday and also Easter Monday.

“For some of us, there will be some wintry showers as well.”

Ms Kirkwood noted that temperatures will be significantly higher than normal for the time of year this week.

Despite this, the north of the UK can expect some heavy rain and slightly cooler temperatures.

Due to this rainfall throughout Scotland, the weather forecaster warned of flooding in the area.

Ms Kirkwood said: “We do have this weather front and it will be producing persistent rain through Scotland.

“To the south of that look how we are puling in this mild air as represented by the yellows and ambers.

“We will hang on to this rain in the north with the risk of flooding as parts of Northern and western Scotland.”

“Temperatures today 9C in Stornoway, 17C in Aberdeen and 19C in Norwich but we could hit 20 or 21C in London.”

Regarding Easter Weekend, Ms Kirkwood said: “By the end of the week this weather front that is bringing the colder weather behind it will continue to sink southwards.

“There will be not much left in it than some cloud and the odd spot of rain.

“But it opens the doors to some Arctic air coming right the way across the whole UK so things will turn a whole lot colder.

“It will be windy as well and there will be a chance of wintry showers, by that I mean sleet and snow.”
