Blind reporter ‘jumps on’ mugger as he ‘cracks elbow’ retrieving stolen iPhone

A police investigation has been launched after a blind BBC reporter was mugged,
However, Sean Dilley managed to get the better of the thug who attacked him by “instinctively” leaping on him in the attack near New Broadcasting House in London.
Mr Dilley had gone outside to have a coffee break earlier this morning (December 27), when he was the target of an attack by a person riding on a bike.

The attacker attempted to grab his phone, but the blind man wouldn't give it up so easily.
He tried to “detain” his attacker, the BBC reports.
Tweeting about the incident, in which he feels he was attacked for his blindness, the BBC News Correspondent and project lead for the BBC’s Re-framing Disability Programme tweeted: A man on a bike just SNATCHED and stole my iPhone from my hand.
“Wrong blind person, wrong day.
“Jumped on him, safely detained and got my phone back – quite a few cuts and bruises but tweeting on the phone he stole (and I recovered).”
He later tweeted that he thought he might have “cracked my elbow” during the ensuing scuffle, and added that he knew it was a “realy stupid thing to have done”.

He added: “But I'm so proud of myself.
“I wasn’t trying to hurt him.
“In fact, I was really try(ing) not to.
“That said, I jumped on him as hard as I possibly could to stop him and recover my phone and of course to affect an arrest.
“Beyond this, once he was controlled, I just restrained.”
The bloke did eventually escape, while Mr Dilley got his phone back.
Police are investigating the incident as an attempted robbery and are appealing for witnesses who saw what happened in Bolsover Street, in central London, just before 6am.
A witness who stopped to help told police the person ran off in the direction of Greenwell Street. Anyone with information should call 101 quoting CAD 1115/27Dec.
