Bloke collecting £400 lottery prize ended up cashing in £40k after playing again
A lottery winner who went to collect his £400 prize ended up taking home £40,000 after playing another scratchcard at the shop.
Handyman John Meadows, 60, was initially excited by his £400 winnings, he gave the lottery another crack and was on track to win £8,000 but his fortune did not stop there.
Overcome with adrenaline, the home improvements expert from Halethorpe, Maryland, US, took his new scratchcard home where he finished it off in peace.

John's jaw continued to drop and by the time he scratched off all the boxes, he realised he had won an amazing $50,000 (£40,068).
He explained: "I knew right away this one was something special.
"I just had to get out of there, back home where I could scratch the rest of the ticket and react the way I wanted to."
Newsflash obtained a statement from the Maryland Lottery on Monday, 1st May, saying: "Halethorpe resident John Meadows said he’s had good fortune recently with the Lucky Times 10 scratch-off game.
But on a recent stop to Selma’s Liquor and Grocery in Baltimore, he found out what 'Lottery Luck' really looks like."

They added: "When he finished the game and realized that the prizes added up to $50,000 [£40,000], he was shocked."
Still stunned, John said: "My perfect world goal with the Lottery was always to win a big prize like this."
He said his first job would be to pay some bills.
He said: "It’ll be a monumental relief to no longer owe anyone anything. Such a weight off of my shoulders."
