A Brit survived "for days" in the middle of the English Channel after his kayak capsized before getting rescued by fishermen.

The 28-year-old kayaker was seen clinging to a buoy as he survived in the middle of the ocean eating only seaweed and mussels.

The Brit had allegedly left Dover almost two weeks ago to attempt to cross the English Channel, before his dream soon turned into a nightmare.

He was eventually found by the crew of cutter ship ‘De Madelaine', of the shipping company T. de Boer en Zonen from the Netherlands after his kayak capsized.

The man was only found when captain Teunis de Boer said he "saw something crazy moving" while he was sailing between England and France.

The captain grabbed a pair of binoculars and spotted the exhausted Brit, who was wearing just swimming trunks and “waving like a madman”, reports De Telegraaf.

Despite the difficult weather conditions, the crew were able to rescue the man and subsequently offered him water and a Snickers.

The man was brought aboard with a body temperature of just 26C, reportedly suffering from severe hypothermia.

Skipper De Boer said his eyes were “very deep in his sockets” and called it a "miracle he survived".

Following his recovery, the Brit told the crew on how he initially set off to kayak the channel before it went pear-shaped and he found himself hanging onto a buoy for survival.

He expressed his gratitude to the crew who saved his life by signing a heart with his hands to show as he was airlifted to a French hospital for treatment.
