Brits sign petition to suspend Prince Harry’s title as he’s ‘damaging country’

Thousands of people have signed a petition calling for Prince Harry to request the Queen suspend his royal titles.

Last week, Lady Colin Campbell, who wrote the book Meghan and Harry: The Real Story, launched a petition urging The Duke of Sussex to request that the Queen put his titles into abeyance, meaning they would go into a state of temporary disuse or suspension.

Daily Star exclusively revealed that Lady Colin Campbell launched the petition saying it's "the right thing to do".

And now thousands more Brits have joined the petiton, with some of those saying Prince Harry is "damaging our country".

Speaking to the Daily Star, Lady C said: "I started it because I think it’s the right thing to do.

"I have spoken to people, many people, who think it’s the right thing to do and it is the solution.

"It is a dignified solution for all concerned. To humiliate no-one and protect everyone. I think it’s a humane way of solving a very regrettable situation."

The petition has now been signed by more than 33,000 people.

People signing have also been sharing their opinions and reasons for signing it.

"Using his title to cause trouble is damaging to our country," one person wrote.

Another wrote: "They don't deserve to keep the titles, especially when they are using them for personal benefit."

A third added: "His current actions are damaging to this country and at odds with how a Royal is expected to conduct themselves."

Speaking to the Daily Star, Lady C said she believes Harry and wife Meghan Markle would still be able to "sell their brand" without the royal titles.

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'poking the bear' and royals 'may have tipping point'

The royal expert said: "It is the best solution because it frees Harry to be able to indulge himself without consequence and without doing damage to the institution of the monarchy of the British nation, the British people and himself.

"So from that point of view it frees him and he is big enough that he doesn’t need the royal title, he’s gone beyond that, he doesn’t need them, they are shackles that he could well do without.

"He doesn’t need them – he is too big for them now."

  • Prince William won't listen to Harry and is 'modelling himself on the Queen'

"He still gets publicity," Lady C added. "He still gets attention.

"They will still be able to sell their brand, capitalise upon their identity, but at least it will be in a way there can be no confusion about the fact that he is doing it as an individual and not as a member of the royal family that has duties to the nation and to the people of this nation."

The petition is available to sign on Change.org here.

Daily Star has contacted a representative for Prince Harry about the petiton.
