Council woman sends Uber Eats biker flying in air in hit-and-run caught on CCTV

CCTV footage shows the shocking moment an American council woman allegedly hit an Uber Eats rider with her car and sped away.

Amy DeGise, a member of the Jersey City council, reportedly slammed into Andrew Black with her vehicle in the video that was captured around 8am on July 19.

The impact caused 29-year-old bloke to go flying over the car bonnet before falling to the ground as she drove away from the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Forrest Street in a Nissan Rogue.

Thankfully, the cyclist didn't sustain any major injuries but has spoken to the media about his disgust at the council woman who failed to handle the incident properly.

Mr Black said: "I look left, suddenly I just hear ‘Ba[m].’ I get hit. I roll over and I’m in such pain.

“Someone of prestige [who is] demanding to uphold and clean our streets or whatever they’re calling it… can’t even do it themselves. It really upset me.”

However, the footage also showed that Black rode his bike over the intersection through a red light at the time of the crash, meaning the lawmaker had the right of way, the New Jersey Globe reports.

But DeGise was later issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report it.

More than 1,550 people have signed a Change.org petition calling for the council woman’s resignation by Thursday (July 29).

In the description of the petition, campaigner Meghan Carolan wrote: "Council member DeGise should have resigned as soon as this news came out.

"She must resign now and the Mayor and council members must call publically for her resignation. As an at-large member of the council, Council member DeGise has the hefty task of representing the full city and the best interests of all its residents.

"By striking and abandoning one of those residents, in a time of crisis, she has shown she cannot be trusted to put the well-being of residents first.

"To hit a constituent and leave them speaks to a deeply troubling level of self-preservation instinct, and one that has no place in public service.

"Staying at the scene is an act of responsibility, and humanity towards the victim – not to mention, a driver's legal obligation."

DeGise has been approached by the Daily Star for comment.
