Denver weather: Highs in the 90s this weekend with possible thunderstorms

Rain storms hung over the mountains and high plains north of metro Denver Friday morning ahead of a hot day with possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

The scattered storms may bring brief heavy rain and kick out wind at speeds up to 60 miles per hour, weather service forecasters said, estimating the likelihood of rain at 30%.

The high temperature in Denver on Friday will be 95 degrees, decreasing to 64 degrees at night, forecasters said. On Saturday and Sunday, the high is expected to be 94 degrees. High temperatures early next week also are expected to exceed 90 degrees.

Any afternoon storms likely will hit after 5 p.m. and diminish before midnight, forecasters said. Over the weekend, they estimated the likelihood of rain at 20%.

Meteorologists said they are anticipating a summer rain pattern next week that could bring cooler temperatures and possible heavy rain, raising risks for flooding.
