• Dominic Cummings has revealed he regretted not quitting in September 
• Told MPs he considered resigning in March last year during his evidence session
• In July he said he told Boris Johnson that he would leave the role in December

The Prime Minister’s former adviser claimed that he ‘repeatedly’ tried to quit and go public with his concerns during his evidence session yesterday.

Dominic Cummings said he regretted not quitting in September and holding a Press conference to ‘blow this thing sky high’. 

Had he done so, ‘tens of thousands of people would now still be alive’, he said.

‘I think I made the wrong decision and I apologise for that,’ he added.

He also told MPs he considered resigning in March last year and holding a Press conference and saying the Government was going to kill ‘hundreds of thousands of people’.

He said that he had ‘similar conversations’ about leaving in September.

In July, he again said he told Boris Johnson that he’d leave in December, saying to him ‘it’s best you and I part ways’.

Mr Cummings said: ‘I was extremely tempted to go in the summer, but various people said to me “the autumn is going to be a disaster… you’ve got to stay and try and control the shopping trolley”.

‘Part of the problem was people thought… I had a lot of influence over the Prime Minister. 

‘While that had been the case in 2019, from 10 o’clock on election night, as soon as he had an 80-seat majority, that situation changed.’
