Euronews reporter Christopher Pitchers highlighted the growing frustration from Hungary at the EU. The European Union has accepted 12 out of 27 member states’ coronavirus recovery plans. Hungary is not among those accepted and Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has lashed out at the EU for this decision.

Mr Pitchers said: “EU finance ministers have given the final green light to 12 out of 27 countries pandemic recovery plans.”

These countries are France, Portugal, Spain, France, Austria, Italy, Greece, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and Lithuania.

The reporter continued: “These member states will start receiving the first batch of money within weeks.

“It won’t be the entire sum in one go, just 13 percent for now.

“But it is an important step towards repairing the bloc’s battered economy.”

Mr Pitchers highlighted the frustration felt by Hungary for not being among the approved countries.

He insisted there is no reason Hungary should not have been the other accepted nations. 

He said: “The European Commission has so far approved 16 plans.

“But with Hungary, the evaluation deadline has been extended.

According to the Hungarian Government, this is unjustified.”

Speaking at the V4 Recharging Europe meeting, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto voiced the Government’s frustration.

He said: “The documents related to the Hungarian recovery fund are excellent documents.

“There is no real reason for any institution of the European Union to reject the ongoing plans.

“Negotiations are taking place, mixing European politics and things would obviously be unacceptable if that were the case.”

The European Union have been criticised by the Hungarian Government previously and accused them of punishing the country for not following their rules.
