Fury as ‘dogging birdbox’ full of free condoms and wipes appears at beauty spot

Visitors to a popular wildlife reserve have been left horrified after a 'dogging birdbox' filled with free condoms and wet wipes was erected in their beauty spot.
The box was set up by sexual health campaigners who wanted to encourage safer sex in known 'dogging hotspots'.
However, the arrival of the new condom outlet on Two Tree Island near Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, has sparked concern from walkers and cyclists.
Brook sexual health service, who is behind the condom and wet wipe box, stood by their decision to install the outlet claiming its a "tried and tested method" that is taking place all over the country.
Ron Sverdloff, 78, who is a regular visitor of the nature reserve says the council funded birdboxes are a "waste of money".
Ron said: "I know it’s supposed to be long known for its dogging.
"I think it’s unnecessary and will end up being a waste of money.
"Most people in 2021 are aware of diseases and the problems unprotected sex can cause.
"In Two Tree Island there’s so much dog poo littered we don’t want anything else littering the ground.
"If people are having sex in public I doubt they’re bothered where they put the rubbish. I’m dead against it.”
A Brook spokesperson said: “As part of our Health Promotion Service, Brook carries out a number of different outreach initiatives to residents across the borough, including providing condoms for members of the public to encourage safer sex.
“While we do not encourage people engaging in public sex, we have to acknowledge that it takes place and will continue to do so whether or not condoms are available.

Cheryl Nevin, cabinet member for adult social care and health integration, said: “Southend council has recently contracted a new sexual health service through Brook Young People to provide sexual health services across the borough, tailored to meet the needs of our residents.
"We understand that they are carrying out a number of different outreach initiatives designed at reducing onward transmission of STI’s.”
