A 14-year-old girl has been tragically killed in a store dressing room during a police shootout as cops opened fire on a man attacking a woman.
Police confirmed on Thursday that she appears to have been killed by a round fired by an officer at a Burlington store in North Hollywood, US.
Another person was also killed during the chaos as panicked Christmas shoppers fled the gunfire. Police have confirmed that this was the suspect.
Police were called to the store at around 11.45am on Thursday after receiving a 911 call reporting shots being fired. Whilst rushing to the scene they got another call confirming that people were taking cover inside the store.
Witnesses reported that a man was attacking customers and, although it was initially unclear whether he had a gun, officers found an armed individual assaulting a woman.
Some reported he was attacking people with some form of chain.
Los Angeles police Captain Stacy Spell said at a press conference that the woman who was being attacked by the man was hospitalised after the incident. There are no details regarding her condition.
