Harry and Meghan ‘will expect £2.4m Frogmore Cottage payment back’ says expert

A royal expert has claimed Prince Harry and Meghan will expect to recoup the £2.4million they spent on renovating Frogmore Cottage following news they'll will be booted from their Windsor digs.

The Sunday Times royal editor Roya Nikkhah believes Harry and Meghan will be expecting at least some of their money back after being forced to move out of the property.

The news of their eviction from the five-bedroom property dropped on February 28, which reportedly left the royal couple “shocked”.

King Charles III offered the property to the disgraced Prince Andrew, who in recent weeks has allegedly been "resisting" the move.

Frogmore Cottage was originally a gift from Queen Elizabeth to the couple upon their marriage.

Repairs to the 33-acre estate set the couple back £2.4million, which was initially paid for by British taxpayers.

Sunday Times royal editor Roya Nikkhah told True Royalty TV's The Royal Beat the Firm will likely have accounted for Harry and Meghan’s expectation to be repaid for repairs they have partly funded.

"I am sure that will be something the bean counters at Buckingham Palace would have factored,” she said.

"I don't think Buckingham Palace would give them notice, evict them and not be mindful of the fact there is a certain period left to run on the lease. Harry and Meghan renewed the lease last year, and I am sure they will be looking to get that money back."

She added the decision may be less about money and more about how the King feels about his relationship with his son, saying: "It's more about the optics. It is interesting the King and Buckingham Palace would have known how it would have played out optically.

"It sort of implies that the King doesn't care about the optics of that decision. It's his decision; he is making it and has done it,” she added.
