Horror moment woman tourist and ‘unlicensed’ pilot die when motorised hang-glider plunges 'like a stone' into gorge | The Sun

THIS is the horror moment a tourist and her allegedly unlicensed instructor died after their motorised hang-glider plunged into a gorge.

Anna Kozyreva, 43, was taking a joyride in the mountainous Adygea region of Russia on Sunday when the microlight plummeted "like a stone" to the ground.



Law enforcement officials said an investigation has been launched after the pilot took the woman for a paid ride without a licence to fly tourists.

Shocking footage showed the glider spiralling towards the ground in front of horrified onlookers.

Crowds could be heard crying out as the woman and the "unlicensed" instructor nosedived into the gorge as smoke poured from the stricken aircraft.

The microlight appeared to be out of control before the tragic crash in the mountains.

Images showed the burning wreckage of the hang glider after it hit the ground and burst into flames.

The dead pilot, aged 48, has not been identified.

According to reports, there was a problem with the wing.

An investigation is now underway into the cause of the tragic crash.

The Russian Investigative Committee said it has opened a criminal case.

"The pilot of the aircraft had no licence to fly it and no right to provide paid services," it said.

"According to preliminary information, the crash was caused by a [wing] fracture, after which the aircraft fell into a gorge. 

"The pilot and his passenger were killed."
