Hubby left red-faced over comment to wife days before she won Lottery jackpot
Eight Willesborough neighbours won more than a quarter of a million pounds between them after their TN24 0UA postcode was announced as a winner withPeople’s Postcode Lottery .
Seven of the Evans Road residents each won £30,000, with one neighbour doubling their winnings to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
But 60-year-old driving instructor, Graham Gardiner, would have missed out, had his wife listened to him when he told her "it's a waste of time" before she entered the draw.
He soon changed his tune when they got the good news. He said: “Thirty grand?! Wicked. That’s fantastic!
“It’s quite funny. Because on Saturday just gone, she [Debby] said to me ‘we’re never going to win this you know, because we haven’t even got a doorbell’!
“It means a lot. I’d like to go on a Florida holiday with the family because I like all the theme parks.”
Mean while, childminder and £30,000 winner, Louise Taggart said: “Wow! That’s brilliant. I feel a bit numb really.”
The 44-year-old was with her husband Steve when she found out the good news. Steve said: “We’ve missed out on a couple of holidays and one of them was supposed to be two weeks with my mum and dad, which is time we won’t get back again. So, it’s good to know we’ve still got that money in the pot.”
Louise added: “We’ll be able to have a nice holiday away together as a family. I also want to get the bathroom redone and we need a new en suite too. So, we can probably do both now.
“We’ll celebrate with a glass of champagne later on maybe.”
People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Jeff Brazier, who revealed the prize amounts via video call, said: “Brilliant news for some of our lucky players in Willesborough. It was great to hear how Louise and Graham plan on spending their winnings, with a little help from the families of course."
