‘Hybrid panther’ stalking UK countryside as locals say ‘it’s too big for a cat’
A bloke reckons he captured footage of a 'hybrid panther' while on a walk in the Scottish countryside.
Gordon Welsh, 50, claimed he spotted the animal when he was walking along the road near Blackdog, Aberdeenshire. He is a big cat enthusiast and believes that the UK has it’s own wild population of pumas, panthers and other species.
He claimed that he stumbled across the discovery, saying: “I was just walking at the time and I’ve just seen it like limping – that’s what caught my eye. I was like ‘the hell is that?’ But then I was like ‘it’s nae a cat, it’s too big.”

Gordon says that he has spotted big cats around this area before and that this latest sighting is just one in a long line of potential sightings.
He said: “I’ve been a ghillie, deerstalker, farmhand the best of my days, so I ken the difference between a domestic cat, a feral cat and that cat.” He carried on to suggest it was bigger than a greyhound and was “well solid looking.”
He settled on the fact that the cat was a “hybrid panther.” Being a local resident of the area, he was sure this could not have been a normal animal. He added: “From the way it was moving, the tail size and that, it was slightly like a panther, but it could be a crossbreed.I’ve seen ‘em plenty of times, I’ve seen lynx, I’ve seen panthers, I’ve seen crossbreeds – they’re all over the place, trust me.”
Gordon continued “To be quite honest with you, most will think you mad, but these things are out there, as a certainty.” He managed to get some video footage of the creature and even posted it on a big cat sighting Facebook page for other local opinions.
In his footage, the creature is seen limping down a hillside, before disappearing in the long grass at the field’s edge.
“Looks like a black panther,” one person commented. “That’s no house cat,” said another. “It’s clearly a panther, look at the size of it,” a third viewer remarked.

Gordon wasn’t completely sure on what he saw, but still believes it was some sort of big cat. “A lot of folk are saying they’ve seen other sightings round about the same area. You always get the one or two who think ‘no, this is just total crap, it’s a cat.’ But you’re like ‘ah well, believe it if you want, if you don’t it’s no skin off my nose.’ I’m not worrying, I know what I’ve seen.”
