Inside the tragedies that have haunted George Floyd's family & witnesses following his death as his niece, 4, is shot

GEORGE Floyd's name has become synonymous with the fight for racial justice after bystander’s video of his last moments shocked the world.

The 46-year-old was murdered in May 2020 by police officer Derek Chauvin who knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes in a brutal arrest in Minneapolis.

Away from the trial – which saw Chauvin sentence to 22 and a half years in prison – Floyd's loved ones and those who witnessed his harrowing final moments have suffered tragedies of their own.

On New Year's Day his great niece Arianna Delane was shot in her bed in an attack at their Texas family home.

'DADDY, I'VE BEEN HIT'

Arianna Delane  cried “Daddy I’ve been hit” andhad to undergo surgery in Houston over the weekend after bullets punctured her lung, liver and broke three ribs.

She is thought to have been the victim of a targeted hit.

Holding back tears, he dad told ABC: "My daughter jumped up and said, 'Daddy, I've been hit.”

Cops have not revealed a motive nor have they provided a description of the suspect.

But the little girl’s family said they know who opened fire, and have suggested the shooting was targeted, without commenting further on a motive.

The child reportedly attended several protests last year to honor her slain uncle.

ABC 13 aired footage last year of the family, including Arianna, reacting to Derek Chauvin being found guilty in Floyd's murder.

Arianna's mom is Floyd's niece Bianca, whose mother is his sister, LaTonya.

Floyd was the oldest of George Perry and Larcenia Jones Floyd's five children.

His two brothers are Rodney and Philonise, and his other sister is Bridgett.

POLICE CHASE

Just six months earlier the teen who filmed George Floyd's murder said her uncle had been killed in a high speed car crash involving police.

Surveillance video showed as innocent bystander Leneal Lamont Frazier's Jeep was hit by cops chasing another vehicle.

Police had been chasing a suspect believed to have taken part in a carjacking.

Frazier, who had been driving to his girlfriend's house, died at the hospital.

His niece Darnella won a Pulitzer prize for filming the murder of Floyd.

At the time she filmed Floyd's murder she was just 17-years-old.

Millions of people would see the video, and Frazier, now 18, testified at Derek Chauvin's trial.

"It’s been nights I stayed up apologizing and apologizing to George Floyd for not doing more and not physically interacting and not saving his life," she said in court, according to The New York Times.

Referring to Chauvin, she added: "But it’s like, it’s not what I should have done, it’s what he should have done.”

TEARFUL TESTIMONY

Frazier cried while giving her testimony, which was recorded off-camera because of her age.

“When I look at George Floyd, I look at my dad, I look at my brothers, I look at my cousins, my uncles, because they’re all Black,” she said in court.

Of her uncle's death she wrote on Facebook: "I honestly can’t believe I’m making this post right now…I’m so hurt…nothing feels real.

"I woke up to the most horrible news. MINNEAPOLIS police Killed my uncle. MY uncle… Another black man lost his life in the hands of the police!

"I’m still in shock and it hasn’t fully hit me yet, I broke down in tears.

DAILY TRAUMA

Another eyewitness to Floyd's death has described dealing with the trauma of what he saw every day.

Donald Williams told The Star Tribune: "I look to my left, I see George Floyd.

"I look to my right, I see George Floyd. I look somewhere else and it's like I'm always remembering.

"It's traumatizing. It's traumatizing and I'm dealing with it. The whole situation of it is traumatizing. I deal with it on a daily basis."
