James Hewitt gets congratulated as Meghan and Harry’s daughter born
James Hewitt has been inundated with congratulatory messages from people on social media following the birth of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's daughter – despite not being related to the new arrival in any way.
Wild claims that James Hewitt is actually the father of Prince Harry have long been rubbished.
The theory, which Hewitt has denied himself, stems from the revelation that Princess Diana had an affair with Hewitt while she was married to Prince Charles.
They embarked on a five-year dalliance between 1986 and 1991 after Hewitt had been asked to give the princess riding lessons while he was still in the Household Cavalry – but their affair didn't start until two years after Harry was born.
Diana confirmed the affair in 1995, leading to Prince Harry being dogged by rumours Hewitt was his real father.
And following the announcement on Sunday of the arrival of Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, plenty of people decided to cruelly bring the conspiracy theory up once again and took to Twitter to post congratulatory messages for Mr Hewitt.
"Another grandchild for James Hewitt, bless him," one person wrote.
Another tweeted: "Congratulations James Hewitt on the birth of his new granddaughter."
"Has grandad been informed James Hewitt," a third wrote.
A parody account to Lilibet has already been set up on Twitter, which also tweeted: "I'm looking forward to meeting my grandad James Hewitt."
Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Friday at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Meghan and Harry confirmed on Sunday in an announcement.

The name is a sweet nod to both Harry's late mother Diana, the Princess of Wales, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
A statement on Harry and Meghan's Archewell Foundation website read: "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.
"Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11.40am in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.

"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.
