Kate left moving note in guest book at lodge where William got down on one knee

Kate Middleton left a note of thanks in the guest book of a holiday lodge in Kenya where Prince William asked her to marry him.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were travelling around Kenya for a holiday before they stayed at a lodge near Lake Rutundu in 2010.

It was here at the lodge where William got down on one knee and proposed to Kate, according to royal expert Katie Nicholl.

The couple reportedly spent the day fishing for rainbow trout before returning to the lodge, where William is reported to have taken Kate out on the veranda before popping the big question using his late mother Princess Diana’s ring.

The lodge had only been booked for 24 hours but stated in a guestbook how much they loved their experience.

However, Kate did reveal they had a bit of a disaster fishing with no bites the entire day.

The couple did say they would return to the lodge again.

Kate, who signed the post as Catherine Middleton, wrote: "Thank you for such a wonderful 24 hours!

"Sadly no fish to be found but we had fun trying. I love the warm fires and candle lights—so romantic. Hope to be back soon."

William also wrote in the guestbook: "20th-21st October 2010. Such fun to be back!

"Brought more clothes this time! Looked after so well. Thank you guys! Look forward to next time, soon I hope."

William later revealed to the world why he decided to choose Africa as the perfect location to propose to Kate and revealed how close the continent is to his heart.

As reported by the Mirror, he said: "The African continent holds a very special place in my heart. It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died.

"And when deciding where best to propose to Catherine, I could think of no more fitting place than Kenya to get down on one knee."

It would be a month following his proposal before the world found out about the engagement through a statement from Clarence House.

The couple, whose romance blossomed when they were 19 at St. Andrew's University, would go on to marry at Westminster Abbey on April 29 in 2011.
