Man, 28, is charged with public order offence after an ‘egg was thrown at King Charles’ during his visit to Luton

A man has been charged after an egg was thrown at King Charles during a walkabout of Luton town centre yesterday.

Bedfordshire Police has confirmed that a 28-year-old man has been charged with a public order offence.

The force has declined to name the man, who will appear at court on January 9, next year. 

An egg was thrown towards King Charles today during a walkabout in Luton (the monarch is pictured moments after the incident) but appeared to miss. It is the second time the King has been targeted with eggs in a month 

In a statement, the force said: “A 28-year-old man has been charged in relation to an incident which occurred during His Majesty King Charles III’s visit to Luton yesterday.

“The man was charged under section five of the Public Order Act and has been bailed to appear at Luton Magistrates’ Court on January 9 2023.
