Man killed after huge explosion flattened house leaving three others injured

    The body of a man has been recovered from the scene of an explosion in Swansea, Wales, according to police.

    The gas explosion reportedly rocked houses miles away after it took place in the Morriston area of the city.

    The aftermath was captured by a bystander, whose video shows the devastation created by the blast.

    South Wales Police said the explosion happened at around 11.20am on Clydach Road in Morriston. Two properties were extensively damaged and other neighbouring properties were also damaged.

    Three people were taken to hospital by ambulance after the alarm was raised.

    Police confirmed on Monday evening that the body of a man who was previously unaccounted for had been recovered from the scene. A spokesperson said his family had been informed.

    A South Wales Police statement said: "An investigation will now get underway to establish the cause of the incident.

    "The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

    "A multi-agency command room is co-ordinating the emergency response to the incident at Swansea Central Police Station.

    "A rest centre has been set up by the local authority at Morriston Memorial Hall to support those affected.

    "A cordon remains in place and people are asked to avoid the area. It is necessary to keep the cordon in place due to the ongoing risk to the public and the amount of debris which is blocking access roads."

    Councillor Ceri Evans, who represents Morriston on Swansea Council, said around 100 people had been evacuated following the blast.

    Local resident Sian Murray told Sky News she was "shocked" by the impact of the blast.

    "It was unbelievable. It was quite shocking actually. I walk past there practically everyday with the dog, so it is really scary," she said.
