Canadian snowboarder and cancer survivor Max Parrot, 27, takes gold in the Beijing Winter Olympics in men’s slopestyle event – beating out local favorite Su Yiming from China

•  The 27-year-old fought off fierce challenges from local hero Su Yiming from China who came second and Canadian team-mate Mark McMorris who was third 
• He dazzled the judges at the Genting Snow Park with his amazing array of tricks, jumps and turns in the bright sunshine
• Parrot won silver at Pyeongchang 2018 but he ws forced to miss the 2018/9 season after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer
•  But just weeks after completing a dozen rounds of chemotherapy the Canadian went on to win the X Games in Norway

Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot, who beat cancer to carry on with the sport, has won the men’s slopestyle event in devastating fashion.

The 27-year-old from Quebec fought off fierce challenges from local hero Su Yiming from China who came second and Canadian team-mate Mark McMorris third, to win gold.

Team USA’s former child prodigy Red Gerard who took gold at Pyeongchang 2018 could only manage fourth.

Parrot won silver at Pyeongchang 2018 but he was forced to miss the 2018/9 season after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer.

But just weeks after completing a dozen rounds of chemotherapy the Canadian went on to win the X Games in Norway.

After that victory he said: ‘It was a very special moment that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

‘It felt amazing to ride along with the other riders, who I hadn’t seen for months.’

‘I just want to inspire people to know you can fight anything in life, any challenge.’

And today Parrot proved his recovery was complete when he dazzled the judges at the Genting Snow Park with his amazing array of tricks, jumps and turns in the bright sunshine.
