Meghan and Harry at ‘make or break’ point with Netflix over Jubilee filming

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are at a "make-or-break" point with Netflix, and things may come to a head during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations next month, according to a royal expert.

Last year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly signed a deal with the streaming giant worth £72million.

However, we are yet to see a single piece of content from the royal couple.

Netflix did greenlight two shows from Harry and Meghan. Harry's Heart of Invictus documentary, which was being filmed by crews at the Invictus Games in the Netherlands last month, is thought to still be in the works.

Meghan's proposed series Pearl, an animated children's show, was cancelled before ever seeing the light of day, along with a slew of other Netflix shows last month.

Speaking to the Mirror, an unnamed US consultant suggested that Netflix bosses may soon reassess their investment in the Sussexes.

They said: "We are getting to a point within the business where Netflix executives are evaluating what content around the royals and the Sussexes is actually coming into them.

"If you are at the network, then you signed them for their unique attraction and selling point given their royal access and insight.

"Sure, both are creative and Harry has produced some powerful mental health documentaries, but the big-money deals are for big projects."

Agreeing, royal expert Daniela Elser wrote for news.au.com: "At first, it seemed like a match made in heaven: Oodles of lovely money for the Sussexes; having actual members of the royal family on the books for Netflix.

"But nearly two years on and cracks are starting to show in this marriage with a new report claiming that the upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations in London could be a make-or-break inflection point."

To make matters worse for Harry and Meghan, royal fans on Twitter have slammed the prospect of them filming with Netflix crews at the Jubilee.

One wrote: "I hope Netflix are ready to film the booing, the tomatoes the turning of backs, the insignificant ex Royals perched in the back rows."

Another said: "One sighting of them and the jubilee becomes a Harry and Meghan show."

"To save the Jubilee, Netflix if it has any respect for the Queen should do the right thing and boot them off for good," said a third.

While a fourth fumed "the jubilee isn’t about" Harry or Meghan.
