Neighbours of the mum and daughter alerted authorities after hearing "strange movements" in the house. The police found the decapitated bodies as they attended the scene.
Reports in Brazil have already named the main suspect in the case as the young mum's ex-boyfriend and father of the child, just four days after the murder.
News site GMC Online claimed initial investigations by the Brazilian police indicated that the victim and the main suspect ended their relationship a year ago but they have been back together a "few times" since then.
Reports from Brazil have also suggested that a possible motivation for the killing may be that the 24-year-old victim had an affair with another man and this could have provoked the suspect.
But Brazilian authorities have given no indication yet about the possible motives for the murders.
