Two-year-old Lola James' mother and her partner have been jailed after the tot was brutally murdered.

Kyle Bevan, 31, was convicted of murder after denying killing her and claiming the family dog pushed her down the stairs. He was today (Tuesday, April 25) jailed for life with a minimum term of 28 years.

Lola’s mother Sinead James, 30, is believed to have been in bed on July 17, 2020, while her partner inflicted "catastrophic" brain injuries on her child.

She was previously found guilty of causing or allowing her daughter’s death and was today sentenced to six years. She will serve one half of her sentence in custody and then be released on licence.

The court previously heard how self-confessed “spice head” Bevan launched a “murderous” attack on Lola at James' home in Pembrokeshire.

He had moved in after meeting James on Facebook. During that time, Lola suffered a number of injuries while in his sole care.

On the night of the attack, Bevan took photos of the injuries on Lola and even sent a disturbing video to his mum showing the tot's limp body, attempting to stand her up before letting her drop to the floor.

There were 101 injuries recorded on Lola's body. She had injuries on her brain comparable to car crash victims.

James told the court she heard noises coming from her daughter's room around midnight and ran there to find her with Bevan, with no visible injuries.

She said Bevan told her "I've got this" before she returned to bed. Bevan only asked his mother to call an ambulance for Lola at 7.30am, having woken James and told her Lola had fallen down the stairs.

Lola’s grandmother, Nicola James, spoke directly to Bevan during today's sentencing at Swansea Crown Court. The child's mother wept as she spoke.

The grandmother told the murderer: "Kyle. You took the young, innocent life of my granddaughter. At the same time, you’ve taken so much more than you can even imagine.

"You killed my Lola, and you have broken her family. I hope that in the time that you have now you can understand what you have done."

A victim impact statement was read out on behalf of Lola's father, Daniel Thomas.

He said: "I constantly imagine how she would sound and what she would find funny. I miss Lola every single day and my heart hurts every single day.

"I am grateful that Kyle and Sinead are recognised for Lola’s cruel, defenceless murder. But it doesn’t bring me joy. As any parent can imagine, as any human can imagine, it will never come close to being enough.

"Lola didn’t just die. She wasn’t just taken from me in the worst way ever possible. She was brutally attacked. Her tiny body was savaged in the evilest way. She didn’t stand a chance.

"Lola’s little life was filled with filth and chaos at the hands of her mother, who couldn’t even provide her with basic safety in her own home."
