Mystery as CCTV of Jeffrey Epstein’s first suicide attempt is FOUND one day after vanishing as cranks claim ‘cover-up’ – The Sun

CCTV footage of Jeffrey Epstein’s first suicide attempt is NOT missing, it has emerged.

On Wednesday, a lawyer for the paedo financier’s former cellmate claimed the video of the failed July attempt in the Metropolitan Correctional Center no longer existed.

But in response, US prosecutors have confirmed the footage had been retained, reports the New York Post.

In court filing, they said: “Earlier today, the Government confirmed with staff that the Video was preserved by MCC staff.”

Two weeks after the failed attempt on August 10, Epstein – who was facing charges of sex trafficking minors – succeeded in killing himself.

FOUND FOOTAGE

However, it has been reported that footage of his successful suicide is damaged and "unusable" – fuelling conspiracy theorises about his death.

The CCTV of the July 23 bid had been requested by Epstein's ex-cellmate, former cop Nick Tartaglione, following unsubstantiated allegations he had attacked the paedo that night.

TMZ reports lawyer Bruce Barket said in court: “I don’t know the details of how it was lost or destroyed or why it wasn’t retained when it should have been.”

The circumstances of Epstein's death are under investigation by the Justice Department.

WILD THEORIES

Two prison guards on duty the night he died are accused of falsifying records after they allegedly lied about making required checks on the disgraced financier.

It is claimed they left Epstein alone in his cell for eight hours before he was found dead. Those guards have pleaded not guilty.

Following Epstein’s death autopsy photos later revealed Epstein had a fracture to his neck and the city's medical examiner ruled his death a suicide.

But that hasn't stopped theories claiming the sex fiend – who was linked to numerous celebrities and powerbrokers – was murdered.

And New York City’s former chief medical examiner Dr Michael Baden believes the he did not kill himself and was most likely strangled.

“I think that the evidence points toward homicide rather than suicide,” Baden insisted on Fox News last month.

He was hired by Epstein’s family to observe his autopsy after the sex offender was found hanged in his cell.

Who was Jeffrey Epstein and what was he accused of?

Jeffrey Epstein was a US financier who was convicted of soliciting an underage girl for prostitution in 2008.

He was arrested on July 6, 2019 for sex trafficking minors in Florida and New York.
