Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul 'violently attacked' by assailant who broke into couple's San Francisco home as probe opened | The Sun

NANCY Pelosi's husband has been hospitalized after an assailant broke into their home and violently attacked him.

The violent incident occurred Friday morning at the couple's San Francisco home, the House Speaker's Deputy Chief of Staff Drew Hammill revealed in a statement.

“Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi," the statement read.

"Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery."

The unknown suspect was arrested and police have launched a probe to determine a motive.

Speaker Pelosi was not home at the time of the incident.

“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill added.

The extent of Paul's injuries is unknown, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

More details on the incident were not immediately available.

Paul, a businessman based in the Bay Area, has been married to Speaker Pelosi since 1963 and has five children together.

The couple owns a four-bedroom San Francisco home in the middle of her congressional district.

The attack comes months after Paul, 82, pled guilty to one count of driving under the influence following his drunken crash in May.

Paul was slapped with three years probation and ordered to complete a three-month impaired driver program, nine hours of a court work program, and put an ignition interlock device on his car for a year.

In late May, Paul was arrested for driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher in Napa County, California.

According to court documents, Paul – who was driving a Porsche – allegedly blew past a stop sign and struck an SUV while on his way home from a dinner party the night of May 28.

Responding police officers said the 82-year-old was sitting in the driver seat of his Porsche and appeared to be drunk.

“His eyes appears red/watery, he was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath,” the complaint claims.

The driver of the SUV, identified only as John Doe in court docs, refused medical attention at the scene but has since claimed he's experiencing "headaches" in the wake of the collision.

The SUV driver told investigators five days after the crash that he was suffering “pain to his upper right arm, right shoulder and neck” and was having difficulty lifting objects.

Paul was held briefly in the Napa County jail before being released on bail.
