Netflix star on the run in France after ‘ramming through police during raid’

A fake MI5 agent fraudster known as the 'Puppet Master' has smashed his way through police inspecting his hideaway, it is alleged.

Notorious British con artist Robert Hendy-Freegard, 51, became the centre of a Netflix documentary released in January which reveals the shocking lengths he went to, to fleece women of cash.

French police say they have launched a manhunt for the convicted crook after he injured two officers in his Audi A3 getaway vehicle as he escaped an inspection at his business in the rural Creuse region of central France.

According to the authorities, officers joined labour inspectors on a visit to Hendy-Freegard's beagle-breeding business which he runs with his partner Sandra Clifton, 49, in the sleepy village of Vidaillat.

When they turned up however, the former salesman and barman clearly objected to participating in an identity check and bolted from the property with little regard for the safety of two officers, police claim.

Police in the Creuse region said: "While police were asking one of the partners to accompany them to the nearest station, the individual started his vehicle and hit two officers before fleeing."

The injuries allegedly sustained from Hendy-Freegard's reckless driving include 'multiple fractures' to one officer's face which has kept them in hospital, while the other was released after being treated for minor wounds.

A Gendarmerie spokesman said on Friday afternoon: "All the soldiers of the department have been deployed as well as a helicopter from the gendarmerie to try to find this person."

The massive search comes 17 years after Hendy-Freegard was sentenced to life behind bars for for deception, theft and kidnapping.

By 2009 however he was a free man after an appeal saw his kidnap charges quashed.

True crime fans lapped up Netflix's 'The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman', at the beginning of this year showing how he told highly respectable victims he was an undercover MI5 agent and they had become IRA targets by association.

Hendy-Freegard managed to trick seven women into giving him enough money to splash out £1million on his James Bond 007 fantasy of luxury living.

Hendy-Freegard met his current partner and registered dog breeder, Ms Clifton in 2012 and began pretending to also be an expert in the field.

He even flaunted their beagles at Crufts dog show under a false name until his true identity was leaked in 2015.

In the recent Netflix documentary, Ms Clifton's adult children claim she has fallen under Hendy-Freegard's control, as they have not seen her since 2014.
