Nevada tribal ranger who pulled gun on eco-zealots is 'under review'
Nevada tribal cop who pulled gun on climate activists blocking road into Burning Man is ‘under review’
- The ranger, who has not been publicly identified, was reportedly responding to a call, in which officers were told the activists had a weapon
- The protestors had set up a blockade that was creating miles and miles of backed up traffic of vehicles attempting to enter Black Rock City
- Climate protests across the country and across the ocean have turned major sections of the public against the cause, as activists disrupt daily commutes
A tribal ranger’s actions are ‘under review’ after he mowed down and pulled his gun on a group of climate activists blocking the entrance to the Burning Man festival on Sunday.
Shocking video showed the moment the unnamed cop used his truck to plow into the protest line. The cop was seen getting out of his truck with gun drawn as he arrested one of the activists.
A press release from the tribe’s chairman, James J. Phoenix, said the ranger’s actions were ‘under review.’ When questioned by the Associated Press on the nature of the review, Phoenix simply said: ‘Bottom line up front, we are on it.’
The tribal police shut down a group of climate change activists who operate under the name the Seven Circles Alliance. The group set up a blockade outside Black Rock City that stopped thousands from entering the festival grounds as a way of protesting the festival’s consumerism.
Members of the group chained themselves to a structure in the middle of the road and held signs that read ‘Abolish Capitalism’ and ‘Mother Earth needs our help.’

On Tuesday, Seven Circles Alliance released a statement saying that a tribal ranger, who responded to a call for police, arrived on the scene, pointed a gun at the various protestors, and said, ‘I’m going to take you all out.’
‘The excessive response is a snapshot of the institutional violence and police brutality that is being shown to anyone who is actively working to bring about systemic change within the United States, including the climate movement,’ the statement continued.
The group also alleged that a civilian had falsely reported to the rangers the protestors had a firearm.
It is not clear whether conducting a review of an interaction like the one that occurred on Sunday is standard practice for the department. When reached for comment, the department did not clarify its position.
In a five-and-a-half-minute video of the scene, posted to YouTube by FreedomNews TV, a ranger was shown pulling up to the protest, driving straight through the blockade and confronting the activists.
One female activist on the sidelines quickly devolved into hysterics and began screaming: ‘We’re not the problem. We’re non-violent. We have no weapons at all.’
As she yelled, the rangers arrested an activist in the middle of the road.
The eco-zealots shrieked in horror and some sobbed as their compatriots were hauled away.
Footage from before the rangers arrives, showed a clearly frustrated man telling activists that they were on ‘public property’ and had to ‘move the f***ing mess’.
In response, the activists told him to call the authorities if he wanted them to move. A different protestor assured the man that he’s ‘going to eventually get’ to Burning Man.
One woman could be seen chaining herself to the trailer as one of the protesters got in another man’s face, saying: ‘This is a democracy, we have a right to protest.’
She told the protester to ‘lock in and shut up’ like she did, but he continued to berate the angry driver and said: ‘Every change in society came from civil disobedience, all of them.’

Footage also showed an incredibly long line of backed-up vehicles attempting to get into the festival on Sunday.
Guardian journalist Michelle Hooq claimed on social media that rangers showed up at the protest after receiving a call that ‘someone in the crowd was going to shoot the activists.’
One ranger could be heard saying that the protestors were ‘trespassing on tribal land,’ before several were arrested and taken into custody.

The footage was roundly celebrated, as Americans and Brits praised cops for dealing with climate protesters who have wreaked havoc across the world in recent years.
Seven Circles stated their aim is to ‘draw attention to capitalism’s inability to address climate and ecological breakdown.’

Many activists clashed with those trying to pass through, or get to the Burning Man festival by road
The incident in Nevada happened one day after a group of climate activists in Washington, DC, temporarily stopped traffic on a busy highway, earning themselves an equally livid response from drivers.
The protest was the third by the group – Declare Emergency – that had taken place in the nation’s capital in the span of a week.
Each time, a group comprised of at least some of the same people who participated in Saturday’s protest, sat across a highway and blocked traffic for commuters.
Angry drivers sprang forth from their vehicles to scream at the activists holding up weekend traffic.
‘I want to go to work! I want to go to work!’ one driver shouted.
‘Get the f**k out of here! We have to go to f**king work! We’ve got kids to feed,’ shouted another.
Drivers who attempted to calmly reason with the demonstrators were told that extreme measures needed to be taken to save the planet.
Eventually, police arrived and arrested all of the activists, using tip-tie handcuffs on the crowd, several of whom appeared to be elderly.
The group’s objective is to continue ‘disrupting the status quo’ until the White House declares a state of climate emergency.
